Maryland Writers' Association announces the first ever publication of MWA Writers!

Please note that submissions for the Anthology are now closed.

MWA always strives to help members make contacts that lead to publication and encourage writers to reach their full potential. In light of that portion of our mission, we are looking to collect the very best of our members' work and publish it in an anthology. This anthology will be a professional publication available through Amazon.com, selected local bookstores and of course from the Association itself.

MWA member Ally Peltier has agreed to take over the Anthology and will work with the Board to create a professional and creative publication. You can read more about Ally on her website at www.ambitiousenterprises.com. We welcome Ally and look forward to further updates in the coming months. Our projected release date is the Baltimore Book Festival 2008.

Calling all Artists!

The Maryland Writers' Association is holding a contest for a piece of Maryland-themed art to grace the cover of its first anthology, scheduled for a late summer publication. The anthology is not yet titled, but it may be helpful to know that it will contain work from a variety of genres, including fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. There is no overall theme to the work beyond the fact that all authors are members of the MWA.

The winning art earns a prize of $200 and credit in the book. Participants need not be MWA members, but we encourage MWA members in good standing to submit an entry.

Requirements:

  • The art must have a Maryland theme or be otherwise evocative of the region
  • We are seeking color artwork, something that will grab the attention of potential readers and complement the roots of our organization (see www.marylandwriters.org for more information)
  • Artwork may be of any medium (photography, painting, etc.) that can be turned into a high resolution digital file (300dpi minimum: TIFF, EPS or Photoshop)
  • Though your work will ultimately need to be submitted as a high resolution file we will need your initial submission as a low resolution JPG or PDF. Please send your entry as an attachment to ally@ambitiousenterprises.com. In the body of your email, include your full name, address, phone number, preferred email address, the title of your piece, the medium of your artwork, and a short bio

Deadline: May 15

So put down your writing pens, and take up pastels or paints and let your creative juices flow!
